This Christian Dior clutch dates from the 1980s. It has an envelope shape with a flap closure, a white monogram print and a gold-tone metal CD logo on the front, and measures 21 x 16.5 x 3 cm.
The monogram, in a pared-down form.
Under Marc Bohan, artistic director from 1961 to 1989, the Dior name appeared on a wide range of accessories, many of them made under licence. Monogrammed bags and small leather goods were among the most visible of them in the 1980s.
In the 1980s monogrammed bags became one of the clearest signs of designer luxury, as fashion houses reached a wider public. The clutch, carried in the hand, put the logo directly in view.
The white monogram print covers the surface, and the gold-tone CD logo on the flap adds a raised metal accent. Slight signs of wear are visible only on close inspection.
A gold-tone accent on white.
Logo-led accessories from the 1980s and 1990s have drawn renewed attention in recent years. A white Dior monogram clutch carries that period look in a compact, easy-to-carry format.
Monogrammed Dior bags from the 1980s and 1990s attract steady interest from collectors and wearers.
White and pale surfaces show marks easily, so light-coloured bags in very good condition are fewer.
The monogrammed clutch is a recognised part of 1980s luxury accessories.
