Pink leaves and flowers under glaze: a small Dior bowl that brings the house's garden indoors.
This decorative bowl was made for Christian Dior in the 1980s, in glazed ceramic with delicate pink leaves and flowers. It measures 17 by 17 cm. Flowers were central to Christian Dior's imagination, from the flower-like silhouettes of his first collection in 1947 to the floral perfumes of the house.
Dior's flowers, under glaze.
In the 1980s Dior's name appeared on objects for the home as well as on clothing and accessories. Decorative pieces like this bowl extended the house's floral vocabulary into interiors.
The 1980s favoured decorated, romantic interiors with florals, soft colours and ornamental objects. A floral ceramic bowl from a fashion house fitted naturally into that taste.
The pink leaves and flowers are delicate and soft, protected by a glossy glaze that keeps their colour. The bowl's compact size makes it suitable for jewellery, small objects or simply display.
Soft colour, kept bright under glaze.
Dior home objects are less common than its fashion pieces and are increasingly collected. This floral bowl, in very good condition, adds a touch of the house's style to a contemporary interior.
Vintage home objects from fashion houses are increasingly collected.
Ceramics chip easily; examples in very good condition are less common.
Floral decoration has returned to contemporary interiors.
