Vogue US Magazine The MET Issue May 2025 Pharrell Williams It’s Our Turn

The May issue of American Vogue is traditionally tied to the Met Gala and the Costume Institute's spring exhibition. In 2025 it appeared with Pharrell Williams and the cover line “It's Our Turn”.

The 2025 exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art examined the history of Black style through the figure of the dandy, from the eighteenth century to the present. It drew on Monica L. Miller's book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dress and the Making of the Atlantic Diaspora (2009), and Miller served as guest curator.

Pharrell Williams, musician and producer, has been creative director of Louis Vuitton menswear since 2023 and was one of the co-chairs of the 2025 Met Gala. In the issue he speaks with Chioma Nnadi, head of editorial content at American Vogue.

The issue connects the history of Black dandyism with contemporary fashion, presenting personal style as a form of identity and self-expression. Read alongside the exhibition, it records how the fashion press framed the subject in 2025.
