Baroque ornament printed on close-fitting jersey, in the manner of Gianni Versace's early-1990s collections. The leggings bring a grand decorative motif to an everyday garment.
These Gianni Versace Couture leggings date from the 1990s. They are made in stretch jersey with a baroque print, cut high-rise with a logo waistband, and were made in Italy.
Baroque ornament, cut close to the body.
Baroque prints appeared prominently in Gianni Versace's collections of the early 1990s, notably Autumn/Winter 1991, in black and gold as well as brighter colourways. Printed stretch leggings were part of that collection.
In 1989 Gianni Versace opened Atelier Versace for couture and launched the Versus line, overseen by Donatella. His collections of the following years combined bold prints with close-fitting shapes.
The stretch jersey holds the print close to the body, and the logo waistband identifies the house. They are size IT 40 / UK 8 and in very good condition.
Print and logo, held close.
Baroque prints from Gianni Versace's lifetime continue to attract collectors of 1990s fashion. Donatella Versace returned to them in the house's later collections.
Gianni-era baroque prints continue to attract interest among collectors of 1990s fashion.
Stretch fabrics can lose elasticity with age, so condition is assessed with care.
The Barocco print is a recognised Versace code, revisited by the house in later collections.
