This lacquerware technique dates back nearly 400 years to the Azuchi-Momoyama period, prized for its precise woodworking and the way it blends the natural grain of the wood with delicate maki-e decoration. The lid features Dior's iconic houndstooth (pied-de-poule) motif, one of the House's signature patterns since its earliest collections, rendered here in bold black and white against a deep red lacquer ground, centered by a gilt Dior emblem. The interior is signed "Christian Dior" in gold script, and the piece retains its original silver Christian Dior presentation box. An elegant fusion of French couture heritage and Japanese lacquer craftsmanship, likely produced for the Japanese market, where Western luxury houses often commissioned traditional artisans for beauty and gift items. A rare find in this combination of materials and motif.

Condition: Vintage, no visible damage Origin: Japan Materials: Yamanaka lacquerware (urethane lacquer finish per label) Includes: Original Christian Dior box

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0635/9433/2408/files/c4a2275e-baac-41d6-b327-3ad90ca82272.jpg?v=1791383794
https://www.thearchivary.com/products/1990s-christian-dior-houndstooth-yamanaka-shikki-japan-lacquer-box
