In place of a fashion portrait, its exclusive cover reproduces Frida Kahlo's 1938 self-portrait The Frame.

The exhibition, organised by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in collaboration with Tate Modern, runs from 25 June 2026 to 3 January 2027. It brings together more than thirty works by Kahlo with work by her contemporaries and by later artists, and closes with a section on 'Fridamania': the commercial objects through which her face and dress became a global image. The Frame is a small painting in oil on aluminium, set within a reverse-painted glass frame made by Mexican artisans. It was shown at the Julien Levy Gallery in New York in 1938 and at Galerie Renou et Colle in Paris in 1939, with a preface by André Breton, and was bought by the French State that year. It belongs to the Centre Pompidou and has been lent to Tate for the exhibition.

The magazine measures approximately 21.5 x 29 cm and is recorded as Issue 07. The cover places Kahlo's painted self-image, with its flowered hair and framing border of birds and blossoms, under the Bazaar masthead, so that a 1938 work of art takes the position normally given to a fashion photograph.

Editions printed for a single exhibition and sold at a single venue form a distinct strand of fashion publishing, produced in limited quantities and rarely reissued. This one is also a document of its subject: the exhibition examines how Kahlo's image passed into fashion and commerce, and this cover is an example of that process in print. It will interest collectors of Harper's Bazaar, of exhibition ephemera and of material on Kahlo's reception in fashion.

https://www.thearchivary.com/en-es/products/harpers-bazaar-frida-kahlo-collectors-edition-tate-modern-july-august-2026
