A green leaf in glazed ceramic: Dior's love of gardens, brought to the home.
This decorative bowl was made for Christian Dior in the 1980s, in ceramic, in the shape of a green autumn leaf with finely detailed veining. It measures 22 by 19 cm. Christian Dior was a passionate gardener, and flowers and plants run through the house's designs, from prints and embroidery to perfume.
The house's love of nature, in glazed ceramic.
By the 1980s Dior's name extended well beyond fashion to objects for the home and table. These pieces allowed customers to bring the house's taste into their interiors, and they are now among its less familiar collectibles.
Leaf and botanical forms have long been part of decorative arts, from majolica to modern ceramics. A leaf-shaped dish is both functional and ornamental, suited to holding jewellery, keys or small treats.
The bowl follows the natural outline of a leaf, with veining that catches the glaze and light. Its green colour and organic shape make it a quiet, decorative presence on a table or dressing table.
An organic outline, caught in glaze.
Fashion-house objects for the home are increasingly sought by collectors and decorators. This Dior leaf bowl, in very good condition, is a distinctive piece for a contemporary interior.
Vintage home objects from fashion houses are increasingly collected.
Ceramics chip easily; examples in very good condition are less common.
Botanical forms remain a strong reference in interiors.
