A gold medallion ring, made to hold a scarf without a knot: a small Burberrys accessory from the decade of the silk square.
This scarf ring was made for Burberrys in the 1980s in gold-tone metal, decorated with a medallion and engraved with the Burberrys logo on the inside. It measures 4 by 4.5 cm. The brand traded as Burberrys until 1999, and in the 1980s its scarves were among its best-known accessories.
A small accessory for wearing a scarf well.
The 1980s were a high point for the silk scarf, worn at the neck with suits, blazers and coats. Scarf rings, clips and holders allowed scarves to be arranged neatly without knots, and luxury houses offered their own versions, often with logos or medallions.
The 1980s favoured a polished, put-together look, especially in professional dressing. Coordinated accessories such as scarves, scarf rings and brooches were part of that image of care and elegance.
The medallion on the outside gives the ring a decorative face, while the logo engraved inside confirms its maker discreetly. The gold-tone metal complements silk scarves in any colour.
A decorative face, a discreet signature.
Scarf rings have returned as a way to style silk squares and neckerchiefs. This Burberrys ring, in very good condition, is a practical and collectible piece of 1980s accessory design.
Scarf rings and clips have returned as styling accessories.
Small accessories were often lost; branded examples are less common.
The silk square remains a classic accessory.
